History of Deer Park
Deer Park was initially called “Mushquoteh” by the first residents, meaning a clearing in the woods or a place where deer feed. In 1837, the Heath family purchased 40 acres in “Mushquoteh” and named the area Deer Park.
By 1850, Deer Park had developed to include country villas, shops, schools, cemeteries, and hotels. The owner of the Deer Park Hotel even kept deer on the property, allowing them to roam freely. When Deer Park was annexed by Toronto in 1908, the deer were gone, and by 1930, Deer Park had become one of Toronto’s finest residential neighborhoods.
