Geography

Rosedale is located between downtown Toronto and North York, just a few blocks away from the bustling city center. The community’s boundaries extend from Yonge Street to Moore Park Ravine in the east, south to Bloor Street West, and north to Moore Avenue, just beyond St. Clair East.

Entertainment

In the 1820s, William Botsford Jarvis (a merchant and politician) and his wife, Mary Jarvis, first settled in South Rosedale. Mary named the area Rosedale because of the beautiful wild roses that grew along the roadside. In 1864, the Jarvis family sold their Rosedale estate. The area gradually developed from the 1870s onward, and North Rosedale began to rise in prominence after the construction of a bridge over Park Drive Ravine in 1909.

Rosedale is divided into North and South sections by Park Drive Ravine. The South section was established in 1864, and development in the North began after 1909. Rosedale is surrounded by beautiful ravines and lush greenery, yet it is only a few blocks away from Toronto’s commercial, financial, entertainment, and shopping centers, making it a tranquil oasis in the bustling city. The area features Avoca, Park Drive, and Rosedale Ravines, as well as Moore Park and Rosedale Park. Rosedale Park, located on Schofield Avenue, offers eight tennis courts, a sports field, an artificial ice rink, and a wading pool. The park also hosts a large fair every May.

Due to its unique topography, Rosedale provides a peaceful living environment while offering excellent commercial, entertainment, financial, and public amenities just a few blocks away. A short walk of about ten minutes brings residents to Toronto’s bustling Bloor Street high-end shopping district and the fashionable Yorkville area. Thus, Rosedale combines the vibrancy of the city center with the tranquility of a secluded retreat.

Transportation

Rosedale boasts convenient transportation options, being close to the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) and well-served by public transit. Besides the TTC, the Yonge-Spadina subway line (Rosedale station) and the Bloor-Danforth subway line (Sherbourne station) run through the area.

Community Culture

Rosedale is characterized by winding century-old streets, towering trees, a variety of classical and exquisite old houses, and beautiful ravines and parks surrounding the community. It is a genuine oasis in the bustling city, home to Toronto’s upper-class residents.
